High Force Research investing in apprentices providing “Skills for Life”

To mark National Apprenticeship Week 2023, which runs from 6th to 12th February, High Force Research Ltd is delighted to announce that they will be continuing to support the apprenticeship programme with an opportunity for a young person to undertake a degree apprenticeship in Laboratory Science and a career in STEM.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2023 is “Skills for Life”, reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.

The Directors at High Force Research Ltd see the value of degree apprenticeships and employ four young scientists, supporting them with their studies. This represents over 6% of the current workforce and is part of the recruitment strategy to ‘grow our own talent’.

Tristan Sillars, CEO said

“We continue to see the value of the degree apprentice programme, which is a great alternative route to enable young chemists to develop the practical and academic skills needed for a scientific career. Our current apprentices are highly valued members of the team, and I would encourage employers to consider an apprentice in 2023.”

HFR currently employs four Degree Apprentices, who are studying for their Laboratory Scientist Degree accredited and supported via distance learning with Manchester Metropolitan University. Charlie Ellison and Jude Humphrey will graduate this summer with both a degree and an apprenticeship qualification. Charlie is employed as a Production Chemist and Jude as a QC Analyst, both contributing fully to the business. Lucy Beeston and Luke Taylor joined the team in August 2022 as Production Chemists and are well on their way with their studies, having just returned from Manchester and their residential week, as well as passing their first exams.

The Laboratory Scientist Degree Apprenticeship course offers students a great opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’, working towards a degree without tuition fees and gain hands-on experience while working in industry.
