BOOK FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE 2023

With planning of our “North East Women in Life Sciences” event underway for 2023, we thought it would be a good idea to reminisce on our 2022 event

HFR hosted over 60 attendees at the Core in Newcastle on the 9 March 2022 to listen to presentations by women across the life sciences sector, followed by a networking and drinks reception. Also in attendance were 30 virtual attendees who joined in via Zoom.

The speakers for the event included Dr Clare Mahon- Associate Professor at Durham University, Claire Rutherford- Director at Definition IP Ltd and Nicola Emmett- QA/RA manager at LightOx. Clare Mahon and Claire Rutherford delivered presentations, detailing their career journeys and job roles, before Nicola Emmett participated in an open discussion fielding questions from in-person and online audience members. Each speaker contributed their opinions-shaped by their unique career journeys- on topics such as overcoming rejection, entrepreneurship, the importance of collaboration and the benefits of taking risks.

An advantage of the 2022 event taking place in-person was providing attendees the opportunity to network and enjoy the drinks and nibbles provided. Some attendees commented on their relief at returning to in-person meetings, allowing them the opportunity to connect with other attendees in a way that has been lacking while participating in events online.

Organiser Caitlin Mooney commented

“Following from the success of our 2022 event, it is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we start planning for “North East Women in Life Sciences 2023” on the 8 Feb 2023 in Newcastle. We cannot wait to build upon last years event, offering higher capacity and a new layout to the event.”
